At one-ish I was locking up the house before I went to work when I heard this weird loud noise and next thing I know the mirror is rattling around on the wall and the house is shaking. We have builders next door and a quarry near by, so I'm used to feeling the ground shake, but never that much. I figured it was builders next door blowing something up.
Then when I got to work everyone started talking about it, and when we got the school to pick up the children they ran up to us yelling 'EARTHQUAKE!' as loud as they could.
Because the it happened at school some of their lessons were changed and they got impromptu lessons about Earthquakes instead. xP One of the older ones knew about tsunamis too, but he was worried about the island being hit by one, so I gave him a little lesson about that too.
Anyway it was 4.6 on the scale, which I know is nothing compared to the big ones that actually cause damage and injure people, but it's the first one in Guernsey in nearly 100 years (apparently), so a lot of people got a bit scared by it 'cause they've never been in an earthquake before. Pretty sure everyone's just grinning about it now though xP (I am)
As far as I know it was felt in all the channel islands and in france. It was closer to Jersey than Guernsey though so I'm sure it felt stronger for them.
